Critics are helpful. The more you do, the more you get criticized. Critics help you to be more successful. Expect more critics as you go further in life. To gain benefit you need to be able to decide which critics will help you do better. But, somewhere along the path, you will find people who treat you differently than others. They judge you because they dislike you. I once asked my teacher on how to deal with people who don’t like me as it bothered me very much. He said, “You can’t control how other people feel about you, but you can control always how you deal with it.”

 
Having to deal with hate or judgments can really get into you. Here are 5 tips on how to deal with people who don’t like you:
 

#1 You are worthy of someone’s energy

 
Critics are good, but what about someone who gossips about your life? When someone talks about you behind your back that means they think about you. You affect them. If you are bothered by it, change your way of thinking and shrug it off. You don’t even think about them, yet they use their time and attention on you. That means you are special.
 

#2 Understand them

 
Sometimes people are mean because they are having issues with themselves. They aren’t able to resolve or acknowledge the problem. They might be jealous that you have something they’ve always wanted. Or they don’t have anything better than minding people’s business. Whatever the reasons are, don’t let it get to you.
 

#3 Be nice

 
Yes, it’s hard to be nice to people who are mean to you. But, it really shows your character. What other people say about you doesn’t define you. Yet, the way you react shows your character. If you can’t be nice, simply ignore your haters.
 

#4 Focus on the positive things

 
Don’t let mean comments get in your head. Don’t let the haters win by thinking about what they say too much. Laugh it off and move on. Do something you love; it will help you channel your energy in a positive way.
 

#5 Stand up for yourself

 
If they have gone too far you need to be able to stand up for yourself (in a mature way, of course). It may be hard, but the only person who will be there for you all the time is yourself.
